We’re on a mission to bring $Ts in climate finance straight to frontline communities

Terraspect is building critical financial infrastructure to power global climate financing. To avoid breaching 1.5°C degrees of heating, we need $Ts in funding to nature. This financing will be the single largest capital flow from the Global North to the Global South. We want to power this flow and make sure it delivers maximal positive outcomes for the planet and people.
Today, our climate-finance infrastructure helps transparently disburse community compensation from nature-based projects scalably and efficiently. Afforestation, agroforestry, biochar and enhanced rock weathering projects rely on our technology to move $Ms in compensation to 10000s of smallholders, Indigenous peoples and landowners. We are the first solution to bring enterprise-grade payment facilitation in emerging markets and tie it to cutting-edge geospatial data. This means we can deliver last-mile mobile payments based on observed environmental outcomes in the Global South at scale.
This helps projects launch and scale, communities to achieve higher financial inclusion, and ensures social outcomes are achieved alongside climate impact. Why? To achieve a planetary-scale improvement in the condition of our natural ecosystems, and in turn, maintain and improve human habitation conditions on earth.

Raj worked with regenerative agriculture projects in East Africa and later helped corporates raise debt to fund decarbonisation. In the process, he saw how nature-based solutions were crucial to solving climate change and this belief was cemented after talking to carbon project developers.
After Wilhelm & Raj met, we had spoken to over 150 carbon project developers, credit buyers, registries and investors to understand their challenges. We both saw how they struggle to pay communities on the ground in an efficient and transparent manner.
This was becoming a bottleneck to developers bringing projects online, as credit buyers and project investors were increasingly scrutinising community payment mechanisms. This results in a challenge for developers to meet the expectations of institutional buyers and investors, in turn limiting access to capital for crucial natural climate projects.
Raj grew up close to nature in India and Kenya, and over his life saw how lack of financial access tied to energy exclusion and land degradation. He personally saw the pain points of sustainable finance whilst working with a Kenyan impact fund earlier in his career. Most recently he built products to scale green bond issuance in the US and UK, and prior to this worked on mobile payments in Sub-Saharan Africa at Booz and Company, and project finance at Macquarie. He completed a Master’s in Civil & Environmental Engineering from UCL.
Wilhelm grew up between fjords, Highlands, and rice farms. He previously built & scaled Revolut’s global payments product to $200B+ in volume to banks & mobile wallets. Whilst working in Southeast Asia, he saw how mobile penetration had transformed life after buying fruits from a rural Indonesian farmer using a Revolut QR code. Prior to this, he was a software engineer building trade management & data analytics at Goldman Sachs. He holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh.
